Painters in St. Thomas, Ontario
Based in Dorchester, about half an hour away. Interiors, cabinets, exteriors, decks and gazebos in St. Thomas and Elgin County.
St. Thomas is about half an hour southwest of Dorchester. The Railway City has a bit of everything: yellow-brick century homes near Talbot Street, side-splits and bungalows from the sixties and seventies, apartments downtown, and new subdivisions filling in the north end. Our St. Thomas work so far runs from a side-split south of Talbot to accent walls in a downtown apartment, a kitchen on the east side and a gazebo in the north end.
Mill Pond Painters is rated 5.0 on Google, carries liability insurance and WSIB coverage, and backs every job with a 2-year workmanship warranty.
Where We Have Painted in St. Thomas
Some of the St. Thomas streets where we have worked:
- Magnolia Court, north end: a metal hardtop gazebo roof, heavily rusted and pitted, refinished black by hand after the rust was sanded, converted and primed.
- Chestnut Street, south of Talbot: the main level of a side-split, walls and trim, painted after a new kitchen and stone countertops went in.
- Hitch Crescent, east side: kitchen cabinets.
- Moore Street, downtown: three accent walls in an apartment, living room, bathroom and bedroom.
If your street is close to one of these, we have likely worked on a house like yours.
Nearby in Elgin County
Aylmer and area, east along Talbot Line: Ron McNeil Line (an interior repaint) and Moore Avenue (the fascias and eavestroughs painted black, colour-matched to a downspout the owner had on hand).
Belmont, between St. Thomas and Dorchester, is covered on our Thames Centre page, along with the villages north of it.
Port Stanley, Sparta, Union, Shedden and the rest of Central Elgin and Southwold are all within about an hour of Dorchester.
What St. Thomas Homes Ask For
Century homes. The streets around Talbot Street and the old railway yards have plenty of the yellow brick that is common in St. Thomas, with plaster walls, tall baseboards and wood trim under many coats of paint. The prep is filling and taping the plaster, priming the repairs so they do not flash through, and scuffing old oil-based trim before any latex goes on. Latex over unprepared oil peels, so we check before we quote.
Side-splits and bungalows. The Chestnut Street job was the main level of a side-split, walls and trim, scheduled to start after the kitchen contractor had the new cabinets and stone countertops in. If you are mid-renovation, tell us the other trades' dates and we book around them.
Kitchen cabinets. The Hitch Crescent kitchen was cabinets only. Doors and drawer fronts come off, everything gets cleaned, scuffed and primed with a bonding primer, then two finish coats go on for a smooth, hard surface that wipes clean.
Apartments and condos. The Moore Street job was three accent walls, one each in the living room, bathroom and bedroom. Small apartment and condo jobs are a normal booking for us. Tell us your building's rules on parking, elevators and work hours when you book, and we work within them.
Outdoor metal and eavestroughs. The Magnolia Court gazebo roof was too far gone to spray, so the coating went on by brush and roller, worked into the pitted metal after the rust was sanded off, converted and primed. The Aylmer fascias and eavestroughs were cleaned, rinsed, lightly sanded and painted black with a coating made for metal.
New subdivisions. The north end keeps growing, and new builds come with builder-grade flat paint that scuffs and will not wipe clean. The first real repaint, walls in a washable eggshell and the trim in a proper enamel, is what makes a new house feel finished.

How a St. Thomas Estimate Works
We come to the house, walk the rooms or the exterior with you, measure, and ask what you want the finish to look like. You get a written quote with the scope spelled out line by line.
If you go ahead, you pick colours and we book the days. Furniture gets covered in place, floors get protected, and you get a walk-through with us before we leave.

St. Thomas Painting Questions
You are in Dorchester. Do you really come to St. Thomas?
Yes. It is about half an hour from our door, and the streets above are all real jobs. The estimate works the same way as it does in Dorchester: we come to the house, walk it with you and write the quote.
Can you refinish a rusted metal gazebo, railing or fence?
Yes. The rust gets sanded or wire-wheeled off, a rust converter goes on what is left, then a metal primer, then the finish. If the metal is badly pitted the coating goes on by brush and roller rather than a sprayer, so it works into the surface. A refinish slows corrosion but does not stop it, and metal that has already rusted through needs repair, not paint. We will tell you which is which.
Do you paint kitchen cabinets in St. Thomas?
Yes. Doors and drawer fronts come off, everything is cleaned and scuffed, a bonding primer goes on, then two finish coats for a smooth, hard surface that wipes clean. You can book cabinets on their own or with the rest of the house.
Can you paint eavestroughs, fascia and soffits?
Yes. Aluminum takes paint well once it is cleaned and lightly sanded, and a coating made for metal holds the colour. The Aylmer job above was exactly that: fascias and eavestroughs painted black.
Do you take small jobs, like an accent wall or one room?
Yes. The Moore Street apartment was three accent walls. One room, one wall or a single door is a normal booking.
Do you work in Aylmer, Port Stanley and the rest of Elgin County?
Yes. Aylmer and Belmont are on the list above, and Port Stanley, Sparta, Union, Shedden and the rest of Central Elgin and Southwold are all within about an hour of Dorchester. The full list of towns is on the areas we serve page.
