We are totally impressed with Charlie and his team. Our deck had stains and moss growing on it. They cleaned it, then sanded 3 times to get the stains out and another cleaning. Then did a great job with stain we selected. The guys are very friendly and hard workers.

We had our ceilings repainted, along with plaster repair. They did a great job, especially the repaired ceiling cracks in the vaulted LR ceiling. Charlie & Paul were fast & professional and produced great results. We have no hesitation hiring them to do any paint jobs!

Paint by Numbers
Does anyone remember painting by numbers or am I dating myself? For those who are foggy about the concept or have never heard of the process, here’s a refresher. Many famous works of art (or in some cases very bad works of art as in infamous pictures of clowns) were broken up into tiny, irregular “boxes” for lack of a better word. Each box or shape was a particular colour, say yellow, which was Identified by a number. Each colour had its own number. You simply stayed inside the lines of the shape following the colour number which was clearly stated within the box. Having filled in enough boxes with varying colours, an image was revealed. Voila! You had a piece of art, although its value as “art” was certainly debatable… Invented in the 1950s, this pastime was a huge fad that continues to the present. Paint by number kits are available today at Michaels Canada, Amazon, Etsy, etc.
When it came time to have my house painted, I sought quotes from various local house painters to get some numbers as in the cost of such a large endeavour. Although in this case, it wasn’t exclusively about numbers with dollar signs, it was also about approach, products, techniques, detail and professionalism.
I brought in two potential contractors for a quotation: Mill Pond Painters and another contractor who shall remain nameless. The difference between the two firms was quite remarkable.
#1. THE MYSTERY PAINTER
-A quote was requested, but there was no response. I had to email again to remind them. Interesting…
-When a quote was set up (needed a reminder again to get it), a number was given that seemed reasonable. The person doing the quote just showed up. There was no warning.
-The written quote, when it arrived, was double the earlier verbal quote. No explanation was given.
-The thrust of the approach was about salesmanship not how to execute the project. There seemed to be over confidence in the air. I was almost left with the impression that I would be fortunate if they agreed to work for me…
-There was much discussion about a local project that they did rather than my house. I was focused on my number rather than some other address…
#2. MILL POND PAINTERS
-Similar to above a quote was requested. There was a response the next day with a date being set for a few days later. Voila!
-On quote day, Charlie, the owner of Mill Pond Painters was punctual, a small but important component.
-Charlie and I focused on my house, choosing a matching white (that took a surprisingly long time) talking about process, products used, problem areas and time frame. I was impressed by Charlie’s patience with my questions and his obvious enthusiasm for the job.
-Charlie was friendly, knowledgeable, professional, sincere and kind. There was no over confidence as in the above contractor.
-Charlie used a checklist system that described their responsibilities and commitments. It was all laid out for the homeowner to see. Well done!
-The quote was almost instantaneous. Interestingly, the amount was similar to the written (not verbal) quote of #1. But in my mind, #2, Pond Mills Painting was the superior contractor. Based on the thorough, accurate and professional quote process alone, I would have absolutely no hesitation in enlisting Pond Mills help in taking on a large “paint by number” painting. The numbers, and everything else, were very good.
Sadly, we re-prioritized our house projects and decided to fill the entire house, every room, with paint by number paintings instead of painting the exterior which we rarely see. Why not? No. Seriously. We’re going to ask for Pond Mills’ help later in the season…

I hired the Mill Pond Painters to paint the largest visual area of our house. The two hallways; upper and lower; large kitchen with cathedral ceiling and skylight that needed alot of work, cleanup , priming, tape and painting. Plus an extra task , a large crack in the drywall above the pantry.
Paul is an exceptional pro with 37 years of painting experience under his "brushes".
His detail on all wall painting; on the skylight; drywall repair and tape damage on one white door is meticulous!!
